HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AN ARTIST?
I graduated from National Art School with a double major in Painting and Photography in 1982.
DO YOU MAKE A LOT OF MONEY AS AN ARTIST?
(laughs) (then goes quiet) (cries)
WHY DID YOU BECOME AN ARTIST IN THE FIRST PLACE?
There was never a conscious decision to become one. Even going to art school was a kind of fluke. I have always liked images, colour, playing, drawing, stories....
HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPEND MAKING ART?
Between four to six hours every day actually creating new imagery. The rest of the time doing research which includes: thinking, going to the library, going to the beach, having coffees and sleeping.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND BEING AN ARTIST TO A YOUNG PERSON INTERESTED?
Yes! Of course. There are plenty of downsides but it is a majestic sometimes magical life path. Life is a struggle, with plenty of suffering whatever you choose to do. At least with art, or any creative pursuit, you are doing something soulful and true.

I find it refreshing and delightful, slightly uncouth and yet, slightly couth at the same time.
