This doesn't exactly have a lot to do with making art, really, except that for the fact that is some ways art is a bridge between dreams and reality. Art can suggest the mystery and nebulous states that dreaming is about. We all accept that once a dream is done, once we have woken from it - there is no going back. And yet, we find this hard in reality. We find it hard to let go. Let go of our past, our prejudices, our concepts - many of which were imposed upon us by our parents, society, the system.
An artist likes to challenge some of these deep seated beliefs - to investigate new opportunities in thought, to conceptualise alternative realms of being.
As a race, when we are not busy dealing with the demands of reality, we are trying to progress our unified consciousness, to advance our souls. Artists are, as a rule, are practiced in avoiding/ignoring the demands of reality and paying attention to 'what ifs' and 'imagines...'
Artists are the forward guards of the species. It's dangerous work and the pay is almost nothing but someone has to do it. We do it because we were born to. It's what we know. Boundries, schmoundries - let's open up our minds and get funky with something new!
Oh, yeah. And if sleeping in and not having a real job is part of this - well, so be it. Thank you and good night.
